What is Business English?
Business English is any form of English we use in a business , such as writing emails, reports, giving presentations, or telephoning people for business purposes. Business English can also refer to classes taught for specific industries or business-related subject areas, such as Banking, Finance, Legal or Marketing.
What will I study on my course?
Deciding what you study with us is dealt with at the planning stage, before you start your course. We will let you know the complete list of the modules we can offer, or we can put some new ones together for you. We will encourage you to do some thinking about what you need to study to drive your business, organisation or career forward, and your course is always then tailor made for you.
What Level is a Business English course?
To get the most out of a Business English classes, we recommend that students have attained B2 or C1 level, which both offers you the greatest range of learning materials and also allows you to combine Business English with a Cambridge B2 or C1 Level Intensive course. However, you can study 1-1 Business English at any level.
Why study Business English?
All of our Business English students share the same fundamental learning objective: to study English in order to improve their business or career prospects. A Business English course is a highly targeted approach. Your programme is designed just for you, and is designed to help you gain a competitive advantage in a crowded marketplace.
How do Business English courses differ from General English course?
The key is planning and personalisation. At Richmond English School we invest time and energy into the planning stage of your course. No Business course can begin until we’ve had an extremely thorough conversation with you – before your arrival in London – about what you do in your working life, and what you need to study in order to develop your business or career.
What happens first?
We will send you an in-depth questionnaire to get things started. If you’re part of a company group, we need to understand your company, its vision and objectives. If you’re coming as an individual, we need to understand your current role, as well as your personal vision and career objectives. Only when we feel we’ve really understood this, and only when we’ve really felt that we’ve got to know you, will we send you your personalised curriculum. The planning stage can take a little time, but we know from experience just how vital it is. It’s worth the effort.
Will my teacher know about running a business?
Yes! At Richmond English School we are a specialist Business English provider, and many of our teachers have worked in or run businesses. To read a little more about our teachers, click here.
What is the Business Combination Course?
Our Business Combination courses are one of our most popular options and are offered either to individuals or to companies in closed groups. They provide the opportunity to study Cambridge FCE or CAE in the mornings in combination with a tailor-made Business English course in the afternoons.
If I do the Business Combination course, who will my classmates be?
If you are studying a Business Combination course with us, then your (morning) classmates will be other students staying in London in addition to which we have a number of students already living and working in London. Your classmates will all be adults (we don’t accept students under the age of 18).
Where is Richmond English School based?
We are based in Mortlake Business Centre in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames. It’s a multi-office business centre, housing around 50 small companies, whose atmosphere gives you a good feel for working within an English-speaking business environment. There is a large networking area downstairs, as well as an in-house café. If you want to combine your time studying with us with meeting clients in London, then you’re welcome to use the networking area or we can hire meeting rooms for you on site – but please note that this should be done well in advance, and we can’t guarantee room availability. Mortlake is 4 minutes by train to Richmond Centre, and 25 minutes to Waterloo station in the centre of London.
